Bio
Mary McCauley-Stiff has enjoyed working in technology since she started as a technical writer in a manufacturing plant while still in college. She graduated with a B.A. in English from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, and moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 1993.
At that time, the dot.com craze was just warming up, and Mary worked as a software technical writer, creating user guides, system administration guides, and online help. Some of her clients at that time were: BellSouth Applied Technologies, Dun & Bradstreet Software, Scientific Games, and NCR.
During the dot.com crash and subsequent technology slow-down in Atlanta, Mary was staying at home with her two sons. However, she continued technical writing for her husband's employer, Becton Schantz, Inc. for four years.
In 2005, Mary made the switch to marketing writing and started Five Star Writing. Because she enjoys learning about new software and technologies – and the companies that drive them – she's remained in the technology field.
Although she's created marcomm material, such as case studies, articles, and brochures, she's also interested in writing website copy and direct response copy. Some of her recent clients include: BravePoint, VeriStor, Leapfrog, and DRV Technologies.
Mary lives in the north Atlanta suburbs with her husband, two sons, a Golden Retriever, and one cat. She enjoys reading, fiction writing, working out (not really), and hanging out with her boys.
